challenge

A “Big 3” auto manufacturer had acquired a supplier company several years before, and the integration of the two cultures had been poorly handled. As a result, the “acquired” engineering and administrative/office personnel felt disenfranchised and were starting to explore unionization.

solution

The following steps were planned and implemented as part of a customized solution for meeting the Challenge described above:

  • Identified employees’ concerns using a custom-developed employee survey and employee interviews.
  • Educated leadership on employees’ concerns, and facilitated action planning to address key issues.
  • Created and implemented mechanisms for maintaining healthy, continuous communication between management and employees.
  • Provided leadership training to support development of a healthier culture.

results

As a result of the activities above, the organization reported the following results:

  • The employees chose not to pursue unionization.
  • Productivity increased as the relationship between management and employees improved.
  • Complaints submitted to HR by employees decreased by 78%.
