A mid-sized company in the hospitality industry was experiencing rapid growth. The company was using very basic, generic performance management processes and tools (downloaded from the internet) and had never provided training to leaders/supervisors. As a result they were experiencing numerous problems, including:
- Poor employee morale resulting from inconsistent supervisory practices.
- A high number of serious performance problems caused by an inability to identify and address performance issues in their early stages.
- An inability to effectively identify and develop talent.
- Insufficient bench strength for key positions where vacancies were anticipated.

- Audited the company’s performance management processes, tools and practices.
- Gathered data that identified employees’ concerns and needs related to performance management.
- Inventoried the leaders’ current knowledge level and practices related to supervising employees, and identified development needs.
- Designed a performance management process and tools that reflected evaluation criteria relevant to the organization’s jobs.
- Provided supervisory skills training to all leadership personnel.
